What does it take?

Have you ever wondered why sustainability problems are so rampent... and their solutions so seemingly muddied?  Is sustainability really that difficult of a problem?

The dictionary tells us that sustainable means capable of being continued or maintained.  The Native Americans knew this when they contended that an action must be able to hold up over 7 generations in order to be deemed forthright.

Why is it that our so-called advanced modern society fails so miserably in this respect?  Let's examine it.

If we note that none... repeat NONE... of the fortune 500 companies are operating sustainably... if we also note that the federal and state governments are also operating unsustainably... we perhaps begin to see the unmistakable truth behind the problem.  Seeing this Truth opens the door... but understanding the full meaning and ramifications of this is the beginning of seeing the solution.

We are living in an unsustainable society.  It has justified its behaviors for centuries.  We were born into the unsustainable society.  We were taught that it was right.  We were taught to live and defend these behaviors.  We were taught it noble to go to war to protect and champion these very values that are now reigning havoc on our planet earth.

We are bewildered because doing the right thing would be to go against all we were taught to believe and worship.  It would mean having to change our life.  It would mean giving up the luxuries we have grown accustomed to.  It would necessitate living in a state of voluntary simplicity.

Who is ready for such a change?  Or, is it easier to just give change lip service and continue on with our unsustainable advantages?
